NEW TOURISM ROUTE FOR THEEWATERSKLOOF - WESTERN CAPE - SOUTH AFRICA

Theewaterskoof Municipality in the Cape Overberg is planning to launch the Cape Country Meander in September 2010, a self-drive route to showcase the region's wine, nature, adventure and sport attractions. Theewaterskloof is an agricultural region covering the towns of Grabouw, Villiersdorp, Botrivier, Grenadendal, Greyton, Caledon, Tesslesdal, and Riversonderend.

Visitors making their way along the south Cape coast to explore the Atlantic coastline, before heading off to the Garden Route, often overlook these towns.

To improve the area's competitiveness in the tourism industry, the Theewaterskloof Municipality has announced it is planning to launch the Cape Country Meander Route in September 2010. Simultaneously, a multi-pronged tourism development strategy to revive and transform the local economy, and that will benefit local communities, SMME’s (small-medium micro enterprises), and tourism product and service providers, is being implemented.

The region of Theewaterskloof is recognised for its fruit and wine farms. Elgin and Grabouw together comprise the apple-growing centre of the Cape, and Bot River’s Chenin Blanc wines win international awards.

The area lends itself to outdoor sports like mountain biking, hiking, cross-country marathons, water skiing, boating and fishing. A number of towns on the route fall within the Cape Floral Kingdom World Heritage Site, giving visitors access to the Green Mountain Eco Route (the world’s first biodiverse wine route) and the Groenland Mountain Conservancy in the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.

Under the theme ‘revive your love of touring’, the Cape Country Meander Route will be marketed as a self-drive discovery experience as opposed to a typical A to B route. Wine, nature and adventure sport enthusiasts looking to get out of town and explore country back roads, will be able to design their own itinerary, and travel at their own pace, using the variety of attractions and accommodation options along the route.

Compared to other regions in the Overberg, Theewaterskloof is underdeveloped and largely undiscovered. It's this ‘barefoot and unplugged’ quality that the region's stakeholders hope will lure new local and international visitors to the area.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS - Back from Cape Town, Victoria Falls & Botswana

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2009
NEW YORK, NY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CAPE TOWN
BOTSWANA

Kenneth Hieber arranged a trip for us to Africa. We intended to go on a photo safari only, however, Kenneth convinced us to take a side trip to Cape Town since we were traveling such a distance. Best decision we ever made!

Every aspect of our trip went like clockwork. South African Airways is a great airline - very service oriented and comfortable. All flights were on time and no luggage was lost! The on-site representative appeared on time every time.

While in Cape Town, we toured Cape Point, Hermanus Bay, Arabella Golf Club, a winery and, of course, Table Mountain. The city was beautiful, the views from Table Mountain were incredible and our hotel was very nice.

We arrived in Botswana via Livingstone and crossed the Zambezi River by boat and were transferred to Chobe Safari Lodge where we were greeted with a warm welcome and frosty mango drinks. Our room was very nice with a river view. The activity center was eager to help us arrange all safari drives, cruises, transfers, etc. Breakfast and dinner buffets were beautifully displayed and the food was wonderful. We tasted springbok, eland, kudu, etc.

What an experience!!

The safari drives were the BEST. On our first early morning drive, we came upon a pride of lions walking in the middle of the road. On our first river cruise, we saw many hippos, crocs, impala, and of course, elephants. All the drivers were very knowledgeable about the park and its inhabitants. We saw lions, impala, several species of birds, cape buffalo, kudu, puku, water buffalo, hippos, crocs, giraffes, dung beetles, monkeys, baboons, wart hogs and more elephants that we could ever count.

We took a day trip to Victoria Falls and made the 2-hour walk around the park. We took many beautiful pictures of this magnificent wonder. Impossible to describe the beauty. We also took a Village walk into Namibia. We were in five countries while there - South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

This was a trip of a lifetime for us and we have nothing but wonderful things to say about you and the arrangements you made for us. Africa is truly a beautiful place to visit and we bring home only wonderful memories. We have highly recommended you to friends and family and look forward to you arranging another trip to Africa for us.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS - Back from South Africa and Zambia

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2009
NEW YORK, NY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOUTH AFRICA
ZAMBIA

As I was sitting on the plane enroute to Johannesburg, I was thinking “I must be crazy traveling to Africa alone. Who does this sort of thing? And I know I will be disappointed because it will be impossible to meet these high expectations made by years of dreaming of this trip.” (And at the age of 58, that’s a lot of years of fantasizing.) Wow! Was I wrong…!!!

The safari in Kruger National Park was nothing short of spectacular. The only animal in the Big 5 that I did not see was the leopard. However, seeing a cheetah within 4 feet of the truck, and seeing a pair of mating lions, more than made up for the lack. While watching the incredible wildlife, I had to constantly remind myself that this was NOT Animal Kingdom in Disney World. This was the real deal. These wild animals are in their own habitat. There were more elephants and giraffes than I could count. Hippos, impala, kudu, wart hogs, cape buffalo, rhino, water bucks, monkeys, crocodiles, myriads of birds of prey and waterfowl….the list is endless. This part of the trip DEFINITELY exceeded my expectations!

I thought the rest of the trip would be dull in comparison. I was wrong. I learned the history of Capetown. I saw the beach ostriches at the Cape of Good Hope. I laughed to see the penguins who had won out over the affluent for their rights to Boulder Beach. I saw the multitudes of seals at Seal Island and I tasted some of the best wine in the world.

Several more surprises awaited me as I sadly departed Capetown for the flight to Zambia. One was the utter magnificence of the “Smoke that Thunders” – Victoria Falls. To not only see these amazing falls, but to feel the spray on your face and to feel the earth shake as the water cascaded so violently into the gorge, made it a true sensory experience. And the trip on the Zambezi river to view a truly beautiful sunset while the hippos lounged around close by was another of those “pinch me I must be dreaming” sequences of which there were so many on this vacation.

I have so many other great memories. The marimba bands playing on their handmade instruments of wood, and in one case, PVC pipes with duct tape, were happy to oblige my video-taking and numerous questions. The beautiful harmony of the mambazo singers entranced me despite being unable to understand the lyrics. Music is an international language!

Even the extraordinary circumstances on the plane as we TRIED to leave Johannesburg, left me with many stories to tell.

I could not have possibly fit one more activity into this trip. The only negative thing I have to say is that it was too short. I wish I had the means to spend at least a month in the beautiful country of South Africa. And now that my appetite has been whetted, I am once again dreaming of a return to the mysterious and wonderful continent of Africa. Next stop - Kenya. And to be sure, I would not even consider arranging my trip without the fantastic services of 2AFRIKA.

2AFRIKA NEWS – we understand!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, 2009
NEW YORK, NY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

No one understands the frustration of the Africa bound traveler like 2AFRIKA, INC.’s Founder & President Kenneth R. Hieber.

“Daily,” says Hieber, “I take endless calls from frustrated travelers who claim to be so overwhelmed at the volume of information coming at them from all directions that they want to thrown in the towel and give up on a dream!”

Kenneth Hieber started his travel career on December 1977 and has seen volumes of trends come and go during his three plus decade tenure in the travel industry. “You cannot buy 31+ years of travel planning experience”, said Hieber who has provided impeccable travel arrangements for leisure travelers and corporate executives alike. Hieber operated the corporate travel accounts for the likes of the U.S. Embassy South Africa, Mercedes Benz of South Africa, the South African Nursing Association, and the South African Bureau of Standards to name but a few of his major clients.

In the United States, Hieber has focused his selling skills toward his native Africa and provides a thorough, solid, well-planned itinerary for each of his valued passengers. “Often I find people to be impatient, wanting instant gratification as if 2AFRIKA were a mere search-engine,” added Hieber “But planning a perfect African journey takes time, and if you want to invest your hard-earned dollars wisely, you’d be well advised to extend a little courtesy and patience during the planning stages of your journey.”

Candidly blunt at times, Hieber ‘tells-it-like-it-is’ and if he sees a traveler veering off in the wrong direction, he has no hesitation to shuffle them back in line and make them rethink their strategy. Perhaps that is the reason that 2AFRIKA, INC. has become the successful travel institution that it has become. Travelers get to talk with Hieber directly and get first hand advice and knowledge that no amount of research can provide – least of all ‘instant gratification’ search-engines.

Recently, Hieber came across an article and felt it pertinent to share. “For too long I have felt isolated in my approach” he said, “but listening to and reading about the frustrations of today’s traveler, I come to realize that I am not at all isolated but very grounded in my approach to arranging journeys to the continent I know best”.

Perhaps that is why departing passengers write such meaningful messages – “I am so excited for my trip that I can hardly breathe! The agenda is beautifully detailed. I enjoyed the teleconference last Saturday. I feel like I am in very good hands. Thank you.”

And perhaps then, that is why the same person who wrote the message above concluded with this message upon her return – “Kenneth, I have returned from Africa. I am so gloriously happy about every aspect of my safari. My driver was great, informative, caring, and efficient. The lodgings were amazing. Even the weather was amazing. And Africa was everything and more than one imagines Africa to be. Thank you for all of your carefully thought out plans and arrangements. You are perfection! Carole"

THIS IS THE RECENT REPORT WHICH INSPIRED HIEBER TO OFFER HIS OPINION

Online travel sites flooded with overwhelming options, all claiming the best deals. Extra fees nestled into the fine print amid blaring advertisements. Pounding 16 digits into the telephone after you've booked the wrong flight before finally getting a human voice.

A few weeks ago, Darin Kaplan, a tech-savvy 27-year-old California restaurant manager, clicked his mouse hundreds of times, surfing the vast choices offered by online travel booking Web sites like Expedia.com and Orbitz.com to plan his 28th birthday cruise to Mexico before he gave up in frustration.

"It's a cut-and-paste experience when you're booking online. None of these sites are going to tell me what I can do with different options," said Kaplan, who uses the Internet for many purchases, including his basketball shorts and music tickets. "Travel agents know what they are talking about. It's more comforting to hand my money to someone who has the knowledge and experience."

Some travelers like Kaplan are finding themselves defecting from travel booking sites like Travelocity.com or airline sites like Delta.com. They are going back to the travel agent, an industry that many industry experts once thought to be passé with the advent of online booking.

Fewer travelers are enjoying using the Web to plan and buy trips, according to a study last week by Forrester Research, a market research company. About 46 percent of U.S. leisure travelers enjoyed using the Internet to book travel this year, down from 53 percent in 2007.

Difficult site navigation and presentation on travel company sites and hotel and airline sites are causing a growing number of travelers to shift away from the Web and consider using alternative methods of booking travel.

"People are saying 'I don't understand my options, and I would like to talk to someone who can do all the searching and tell me what's available,' " said Henry Hartevelt, the analyst who wrote the Forrester study.

In the brick-and-mortar travel agent model, a trained agent meets with the traveler in person or establishes a relationship over the phone.

These travel agencies began losing their monopoly on the industry during the late 1990s, when airlines began to sell tickets online and travel giants like Expedia.com exploded onto the scene, quickly gobbling market share by introducing the quick, do-it- yourself model.

In 1995, there were 37,000 brick-and-mortar travel agencies, according to the American Society of Travel Agents. Now, only 18,000 exist after many merged or folded.

"What the Internet has done is given us a nation that knows the price of everything and the value of nothing," said Bill Maloney, CEO of the American Society of Travel Agents. "How do you know if a hotel is actually a good value or if it's overpriced? You have these online generalists and these individual specialists."

Travel agent Nancy Cutter of Court Travel Ltd. in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a half-dozen other agencies across the country say they have experienced a surge in returning clients, who said travel Web sites were confusing and unhelpful.

In several instances, brick-and-mortar agents say they were able to offer deals at the same price as, and even undercut, the travel agent models, dispelling the belief that the cheapest rate is online.

Travel agents have deals with suppliers that can sometimes enable them to offer lower prices than on the Web. They also have time to cancel tickets for free, compared with some non-refundable tickets sold on the Web. Expedia.com said it recently waived the fee for travelers changing certain flights.

"Just because you can go out and buy Turbo Tax doesn't mean it's the best answer for everyone," Cutter said. "Some people will still go to an accountant. Booking travel can get complicated, and it's just not as easy as it looks."

The lengthier maintenance work is to ensure that the cableway can remain open during the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup

Weather permitting, the cableway will reopen on Monday August 17, 2009

Further to this information, please note that our Half Day Cape Town City Sightseeing Tour - including Table Mountain will include a drive up Signal Hill for a view stop during this maintenance period
